Maryland's Arbovirus Surveillance Testing Results 2005
(Updated 10/13/05)

The 2005 surveillance season runs from June 1 - October 31, 2005.


Avian:

The Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene has discontinued its dead bird surveillance program. The U.S. Department of Defense and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources continue to monitor WNV activity in wild and captive birds throughout the State.

A red-tailed hawk in Worcester County has tested positive for WNV.


Equine:

No positive horses have been detected in Maryland.


Mosquito Pools (Pool = group of mosquitoes):

Twenty (20) mosquito pools (9 Montgomery Co., 10 Prince George's Co., 1 Worcester Co.) have tested positive for WNV.


Humans:

Five human WNV cases (2 Baltimore City, 1 Baltimore Co., 1 Prince George's Co., and 1 Washington Co.) have been reported in Maryland, 2005.
