Avian:

The Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene has discontinued its dead bird surveillance program. The U.S. Department of Defense and the Maryland Departments of Agriculture and Natural Resources continue to monitor West Nile virus (WNV) and other disease activity in wild and captive birds throughout the State.

One American crow in Frederick County tested positive for WNV in 2006.

Equine:

No horses have tested positive for WNV infection in 2006.

Twelve mosquito pools tested positive for WNV in 2006. See table below for breakdown by jurisdiction.
