Center for Zoonotic and Vector-borne Diseases (CZVBD)

Vision

The Center for Zoonotic and Vector-borne Diseases (CZVBD) envisions a future that includes:

  • Minimal animal disease and human disease in Maryland citizens, with subsequent reduced risk of zoonotic and vector-borne disease transmission between animals, vectors, and humans
  • Public knowledge about and associated impact of rabies, other zoonotic diseases, and vector-borne diseases in Maryland.

Mission Statement

To reduce the incidence and associated human and animal impact of rabies, other zoonotic diseases, and vector-borne diseases in Maryland

What is a zoonotic disease?

Zoonotic diseases (also called zoonoses) are diseases that are naturally transmitted between animals and humans. Many zoonotic diseases require a vector (such as a mosquito or tick) in order to be transmitted between animals and humans.
